"Grace Notes embarks on a rare exploration of the bone deep truths and unexpected consolations that lie within the mystery of loss and healing."
 - playwright, Beth Henley

Grace Notes is a gentle, funny and deeply touching guided-tour of a "place" most Americans go to, but few feel free to talk about. Based on their book About Grief: Insights, Setbacks, Grace Notes, Taboos, writers Ron Marasco and Brian Shuff use the intimacy of theatre to explore the heartbreak, everyday heroism and surprising hilarity of grief. A new guest artist will be performing every two weeks.

about the show:
Grace Notes & Anvils began the way lots of special theatre projects do--by accident. We were in NY doing a reading/signing of our just-released book, About Grief: Insights, Setbacks, Grace Notes, Taboos. It was our first time reading for an audience.

A few minutes into it something amazing began to happen. We noticed individuals were nodding "Yes," as they heard details of grief that rang true for them. Eventually this began to spread until we were looking out over a sea of affirmative nods.

We realized people weren't just nodding out of recognition; it was as if they were rooting us on, saying "yes" to us talking honestly about this all too hush-hush subject in front of a roomful of strangers-for a live audience. That night there were nods, and some tears, and a surprising amount of laughter.

By the time we were done, we knew the seeds of a future theatre piece had just been planted. That morning, as we flew back to LA, our first thought was The Odyssey.

And here we are.

Morgan appeared in this seated reading from June 7 - 10 and June 14 - 17, 2012 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, located at 2055 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025.

What’s Morgan Fairchild know about grief?

Quite a lot actually! Morgan Fairchild brings her life experiences through the grieving process: both her parents and dear friends have died and a boyfriend who committed suicide. She brings her grief knowledge and wonderful acting talent to the theatre in GRACE NOTES & ANVILS. I found the play to be entertaining, educational, healing and relevant. It is like a guided-tour through a “place” everyone born will eventually have to go through, but few feel free to talk about. Grief.

GOOD GRIEF: Morgan Fairchild Stars in Grace Notes & Anvils!
Interview by Nick Northstar, Posted June 6, 2012

Two Words: Morgan Fairchild. I could just end the column there.

The delish dish that is Morgan Fairchild is as talented as she is divine. And lest we forget, this icon used her power for good, not evil when she became the first big name Hollywood star to speak out about HIV/AIDS in a time when even the Reagan White House was silent. She’s not one to suffer fools gladly or let others suffer from foolish ignorance. God bless her!

As a fearless actress, this brassy beauty has also given us some of the most memorable TV, film, and stage characters.

Now, Fairchild tackles an unexpected role in the new three-person play GRACE NOTES & ANVILS by Ron Marasco and Brian Shuff.

But run; don’t sashay to the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles to see this extraordinary show. Fairchild is only scheduled to appear for eight performances – starting Thursday, June 7 th.

Between rehearsals, I caught up with Fairchild and peppered her with questions. The gracious star, not only gave me the time of day, she MADE mine but indulging me my inquiries.

EXCLUSIVE Q & A with Morgan Fairchild!

Nick: First of all, you are one of the most gorgeous creatures to walk the Earth. There. It’s out of my system (almost). I realize that isn’t remotely a question but it had to be said. OK. So, tell me all about Grace Notes & Anvils. What is it about?

Morgan: Hi, and thanks for the kind words! The play is a collection of stories and vignettes about grief and the ways people deal with it. It sounds depressing, but it actually isn’t. There’s a lot of humor and it touches people in a profound way. Touching stories and funny stories. Things everyone will identify with.

Nick: I understand you are the only lady (and I use that term intentionally) in the production (as it should be). So does that mean you play multiple parts?

Morgan: Each of us plays several different parts over the course of the evening, but we also just talk a lot, too – to each other and the audience. We talk about all the things people don’t talk about when someone dies and there is grief in the air. And some of it is quite funny!!

Nick: Is this role like any you have played before? nothing like Jenna Wade . . .

Morgan: Nothing like Jenna Wade or any of the others. This is so real and honest, not the least bit “soapy”!! LOL! Nor is it glamorous or snide. It’s just real, with all the pain and humor real people go through.

Nick: This weekend is coming up fast. Is there a chance you might be agree to come back to play the part again in the future? I love me some Marilu Henner and all, but girl, you’re the bee’s knees and cat’s meow.

Morgan: LOL! Thanks for that! We’re in talks to have me stay for a second weekend, so I might be the first two weeks of the play, instead of just one.

Nick: I want to thank you for your enormous support for HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and finding a cure. You are amazing.

Morgan: That is very kind of you, Nicky. It’s my proudest accomplishment – to have been the very first AIDS activist in [Hollywood] and to know I actually helped save lives and educate a generation. Thanks for noticing. I paid dearly for my activism.

Dear Morgan, we noticed and will never forget!

Governor Rendell and actress Morgan Fairchild were in Philadelphia to help unveil a new campaign aimed at getting out the female vote this Fall.  That TV spot is part of a multi-media campaign aimed at women across Pennsylvania. Governor Rendell believes the time has come for more women to get involved in politics -- both voting and running. Morgan urged women to empower themselves:   "You see what you care about, you see who agrees with you, you register to vote, you go out and vote for that person."  The campaign is run by the Pennsylvania Commission for Women ... and Executive Director Leslie Stiles says it is a non-partisan effort.  "We're not promoting any particular policy position or candidate. We are promoting participation."
